I
also started a Non-Traditional Student organization there (Actually,
I RE-started it... because there had been one there years back).
It was a great experience, counting everything. I learned a
lot about myself there.
While
I was involved in that group, I realized that there needed to
be a group like this at all schools. And I wanted to help that
happen.
What this site is made for
This
site is made to encourage all non-traditional students - - and
help them all realize that they CAN do it.
In
other words, they CAN succeed.
I
want to help everyone realize that it doesn't matter if a person
is older, or has been out of school for awhile.
Now
that I went back to college, I know that I can do it. Although
it was a challenge for me, I am very glad that I did go back.
l learned so much. And now I think it's easier for me to try
new things - easier than it was before. And that alone makes
it all worth it.
I
made some friends at the University that I will treasure always,
and I keep up with them on Facebook and MySpace now.
I
also learned so much about myself and what I can do.
I
think that all non-traditional students can have a great experience
going back to school, with a little help, advice, and information
from people who have been there and done that.
Future changes in the site
I
plan to expand this website greatly again in the next year. There
will be many more groups listed, and a lot more information
available for non-traditional students, including students who
are overseas.
Right
now, I am adding sites and groups a little at a time. I am hoping
that people will also self-list their groups to help save time.
Eventually, non-traditional students will be able to connect
with others quickly and have everything they need at hand to
pursue their educational dreams.
That
is my goal for the website - to make it as complete and informational
as possible.
Please contact me anytime to suggest improvements
and to put more information on the site. I welcome your articles,
suggestions, and information.
More about me
I
was a nontraditional student myself, and was back at school
for about two years, including my student teaching and intern
experiences.
Will
I go back to college again? I just might. I know that I am glad
that I did it the first time, and I learned a lot. It was definitely
worth it for me to go back to school as an older, nontraditional
student.
I
recommend it, if you are a nontraditional student, and are thinking
about it. Try it out and see how you like it.
