Welcome to my book page archives. I have current book listings here at the Book Page
These are all books I enjoyed reading. I hope you like them. Do you have some suggestions for me? Just email me book titles you like!
BIRD
BY BIRD - by Anne Lamott. Find out why Anne Lamott is one of the
hottest writers out there right now! She tells you all about her
writing journey and what you can do to write better.
ON
WRITING - by Stephen King - outstanding! I highly recommend
this book. One thing I learned - NEVER write Mr. King a letter
with the words "really cool" in it - these are definitely
NOT his favorite words. (Sorry, Mr. King! - I wouldn't have
ever done it if I had read that page in your book first...)
If you were ever curious about his accident - you know, the
one with the van... he writes about it in here too. He really
almost died. I am SO glad he is better now. Are you reading
his latest series about The Gunslinger? If you aren't, you need
to be.
I
think Stephen King is one of the greatest writers ever. Guess
what? There is a place in the book where Stephen King actually
asks budding writers to send him a manuscript. It was such a
great gesture on his part. I'll bet a LOT of people sent samples
of their work. It probably was impossible to read them all.
Now people aren't supposed to send in your writing exercise,
even though it says to in the book.
I
wonder... maybe he will still look at one or two in the future....
depends... I think he said once he wanted to retire? I don't
think he ever did it... because I keep hearing about yet another
project he is doing. I think he does deserve a break, and I'm
glad if he is taking it a little bit easier.
THE
ARTIST'S WAY - by Julia Cameron - how to break free of your
artist block and get going with your true,
artistic life. Read Chapter One and you are already on the way
to becoming a writer or artist. You will be more in touch with
your feelings. A good book. If you have gone your whole life
thinking, "I am going to do that thing someday..."
maybe this book will help you actually do that thing.
CETAGANDA
- the further adventures of Miles Vorkosigan (I've ALMOST read
all of these now...) TAPEBOOK FORMAT - the better to clean with...
Miles as Detective... another intergalactic mystery - will Miles
figure out who is trying to upset the balance of power? Everything
could be a trap - and you are there. Wow - twelve tapes. I will
be hard put to finish before it's due.
HOLES
- by Louis Sachar - really good. An adventure - and you don't
know how it's going to end up. A real page-turner. They put
this on as a play in Junior High School at Auburn, Kentucky
last year.
THE
HARRY POTTER BOOKS - all of them. Super-great books. Absorbing.
A treat. Did you see the latest movie? I'm so glad that Ms.
Rowlings decided to write these.
Julia
King's series. What a great bunch of books, starting with "The
Beekeeper's Apprentice." It's all about Sherlock Holmes
and his female apprentice.
What
I'm reading now:
12-07:
The Sword of Truth books by Terry Goodkind. I am on book #3,
Blood of the Fold. Good books. It is hard to get into at first,
but then it becomes good. You learn more and more about the
characters as the series goes on.
I
am also listening to a tapebook called The Art and Science of
Problem Solving by Bill Gibson. I like this so far. He gives
ways to slow down and consider changes and what is really happening
around you. It's great for people like me who think they know
what is going on. (that was a little joke there)...
Often,
I have found out that there is a lot more going on in some problem
situations than I realized at the time. This book helps you
think out possibilities and get the help of others to solve
these kinds of problems and others - in fact, this system can
be used in business and in your personal life too. It helps
you think out different points of view and tells you concrete
ideas and ways not to put your foot in your mouth or be your
own worst disaster-monger.
You
have heard the old adage - there are three points of view to
any one given situation - yours, mine, and the truth? Well,
Mr. Gibson has a system to help you try to figure out those
other two points of view. Really. At least so far, so good.
I am on tape # 4 out of 6. I gave these a rest lately and am
looking for a good detective tapebook to listen to now.
I finished book three of The Farseer series by Robin Hobb.
These books are really good! They are fantasies, all about a
member of the royal family of the Six Dutchies... treachery,
fate, bravery, and lots more. Right now the kingdom is at war
with strange fighters who are attacking the coast and turning
prisoners into "forged" creatures who pillage their
own country after returning to it. What a strange and interesting
book. I never know what is going to happen next. I highly recommend
this series so far. The books are called Assassin's Apprentice,
Royal Assasin, and Assassin's Quest. |
